To start out you need to know that Mark Roberts grew up here in Schertz TX and actually graduated form Samuel Clemens High School where he took Auto Mechanics. It wasn’t that he wanted to do that for a living, he just wanted to fix up his car and it was an easy credit. He ended up being the go to guy for the teachers and the principal at school for auto repairs. It got him out of a bind every once in awhile also.  He learned it’s good to know some people in high places (like the principal).

Mark began repairing cars for friends and family but did it as a part time job for a number of years, until 1985 when he went to work for a local collision repair shop. While working for this repair shop he began teaching other technicians various subjects through the Inter-Industry Coalition of Auto Repair. (I-Car). These classes were on structural repair, steering and suspension, automotive electronics, airbag and supplemental restraint systems as well as Anti-lock braking systems. Mark then started a company called Airbag Service and provided specialized repair services for independent automotive and dealership operations throughout South Texas.  He later sold that company and worked for a large consolidator who was trying to consolidate the collision repair industry. He did not take him long to figure out he really did not want to be a part of that.

In 2001 he opened Auto Collision Works and at the request of his customers he started performing general automotive repair services in 2004.  David Bacek was added to our staff in 2004 to provide mechanical repairs and has been a great addition. At that time they started what is Schertz Auto Service.  It was started a separate business with the vision of it being a totally separate repair facility. So the decision was made to keep the name separate although the collision repair company (Auto Collision Works) and the general repair company (Schertz Auto Service) were being operated in the same facility.  In 2005 John Long joined the staff as a service writer for the Auto Collision Works and then also started handling part of the auto repair side of the business. Today John manages the day to day operations of providing service and customer relations. John does a great job and has also been another great addition to our organization. In 2008 Auto Collision Works was attempting to build a new collision repair facility in Selma on some property they owned near the Retama race track on IH35 and after dealing with the City of Selma it was made very clear that the City of Selma did not want a collision repair facility in their city.

So after operating that both businesses together for about five years they found that there was a definite convenience to having both businesses together.  So in 2009 the decision was made to begin dropping the Auto Collision Works name and just operate under the Schertz Auto Service name. This was done to be able to advertise all aspects of one business rather than two separate businesses. By operating all these under one name they were streamlining many aspects of the business and reducing some of the expenses of operating several companies.

This will continue to be updated as the story goes on. So now you know some brief history of Schertz Auto Service.
